At times we struggle to keep a healthy balance in our lives. Neglecting our mental health needs is one key contributor to imbalance. Therapy can help to realign our focus and promote self growth to a healthier you. As a therapist, I take a very integrative approach, utilizing multiple theoretical interventions based on a person's unique needs. I work collaboratively with clients to help them in their growth process and act as guide to help each person reach a more holistic harmony within themselves. I work with individuals, couples and families. I offer both in person and telehealth sessions.
My name is Melanie Gonzalez, MAMFT, LMFT #116208, I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist registered with the Board of Behavioral Sciences in the State of California. I received my masters degree from Syracuse University in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2015. I am currently a Doctoral Candidate en route to a Doctorate of Psychology (PsyD) in Marriage and Family Therapy at Alliant International University. I am also pursing my AAMFT Approved Supervisor certification by supervising Masters degree student trainees.

Coping with Trauma
You can rest assured that you will be working with a trauma-informed therapist. I received a Certificate of Advanced Study of Trauma from Syracuse University. Additionally, I competed training in Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy which is backed by research to offer clients the best results in their growth and healing. Many of my clients may be seeking a way to cope with a toxic relationship with physical and emotional aggression or be working through processing childhood experiences of deep pain. I help individuals move forward towards a path of healing.
Transitions with an Affirmative Approach
While at Syracuse University, I had training in working with the transgender population. This training involved helping clients towards hormone readiness and completing insurance referral letters for gender affirmation surgery. I assist clients as they explore their gender or sexual identities with non-binary labels or expectations. I help people of various LGBTQ+ backgrounds with an affirmative approach.
Couples Working Towards Connection
I assist couples with issues around intimacy, infidelity and communication. I integrate a Gottman Method (Gottman Level 1 and Level 2 trained) and Attachment Theory approach to best offer insight and tools for couples to get more immediate relief and change.
