◈ WHY PRIVATE PAY
The freedom to heal on your own terms.
Choosing private pay means choosing a therapeutic experience designed entirely around you — not around what an insurance company will authorize.
🔒 Complete Confidentiality
When you use insurance, your mental health records become part of your permanent insurance file. Private pay keeps your therapy entirely between you and your therapist — no outside parties involved.
🌿 No Authorization Delays
Starting therapy with insurance can mean waiting for prior authorizations. Private pay means you can begin as soon as you're ready — sometimes within the same week.
📋 No Diagnosis Required
Insurance billing requires a formal psychiatric diagnosis that follows you in your record. Private pay allows you to explore therapy without being labeled — ideal for personal growth, relationship work, or life transitions.
✨ Fully Personalized Care
Your treatment plan is shaped by your needs, not insurance-approved diagnoses. Your therapist can draw from any modality and tailor every session to what will truly help you grow.
🗓️ No Session Limits
Insurance plans often cap the number of sessions they'll cover per year. As a private pay client, you and your therapist decide together how long your work continues — not an insurance reviewer.
💬 Open & Honest Exploration
Without documentation going to a third party, many clients feel more at ease to be fully honest — exploring difficult feelings and experiences without worrying about what's on record.
"Therapy is an investment in yourself — and private pay gives you the freedom to do that work without interference."
— Grounded Connections Counseling
◈ USING YOUR OON BENEFITS
How the
Superbill Works
Even as a private pay client, you may be able to get reimbursed by your insurance through something called a superbill — a detailed receipt you submit yourself.
1
Check Your Out-of-Network Benefits
Call the member services number on your insurance card and ask: "Do I have out-of-network mental health benefits?" Ask about your out-of-network deductible and reimbursement percentage (commonly 50–80% after the deductible is met).
2
Pay for Your Sessions Directly
You pay Grounded Connections Counseling at the time of each session. We accept credit/debit cards and HSA/FSA cards. Payment is simple and straightforward — no billing surprises.
3
Request a Superbill From Us
We automatically generate a monthly superbill for you. This is an itemized receipt containing all the information your insurance needs: session dates, CPT procedure codes, diagnosis codes, provider NPI, and fees paid.
4
Submit to Your Insurance
Submit the superbill to your insurance company online via your member portal, by mail, or by fax. Many insurers have a simple claim form — attach the superbill and submit. Keep a copy for your records.
5
Receive Your Reimbursement
After processing (typically 2–6 weeks), your insurance will mail a reimbursement check or direct-deposit the approved amount. You'll receive an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) explaining what was covered.
